Read for the Record

On October 6, 2011 we will be wearing our pajamas to school. This will be in honor of "Read for the Record" day. We will share a story called Llama Llama Red Pajama. It should be fun for all!

Thank You Parents!

Thank you for attending parent night. We had a great turnout. We have received lots of snacks and our class really appreciates that. I'll let you know when we are running low. Today we tried some brain gym activities to get up and moving in between subject areas. We are trying to fill the marble jar for the first time and we are almost halfway there.

Off to a Great Start!

We have been having lots of fun in first grade. We tried a science experiment called "Ocean in a Bottle". It was an introduction to making observations in science. Our first author we are going to be studying is Robert Munsch. We laughed at his silly story called We Share Everything. Lots of routines in the beginning but after the first couple weeks everyone settles into a nice routine. Information will be coming home soon concerning parent night.

A Brand New Year!

Welcome to first grade. I can't wait to meet all my new students on Thursday evening. We have many new things in our classroom this year. We have brand new desks, a new carpet, and we will be getting several new student computers for centers. Mrs. Dow is our new principal. It will be fun to have you meet her and share good news with her. I look forward to a great year!

Phonics is Fun!

The students are really enjoying our new phonics program. They are learning new words everyday and finding out how bigger words can be broken into two and three letter chunks to solve the new word. They have learned to read words like fossil, attic, and timid. This helps introduce new vocabulary as well.

Off to a great start!

Things are going smoothly. We had a busy day today. The students got to meet the new computer teacher. They also had Art and were reunited with Mrs. Butler. The students will have P.E. and Music everyday. The other special classes will just meet once a week.

Welcome Back!

I am so excited to start a new year. We are starting the year with 18 students. My classroom has moved this year. I am located right by the office in Mrs. DeHart's old room. I can't wait to meet everybody. See you at Open House Thursday.
